-
- îPîrîoîfîeîsîsîiîoînîaîl îTîeîxît îPîrîoîcîeîsîsîoîr is the finest full-screen text editor available
- for the IBM-PC. PTP-PC is designed to take full advantage of the IBM-PC (and
- clones) keyboard and video display. Try this short tutorial to become
- familiar with some basic commands and see how easy PTP-PC is to learn and use.
-
- Let's start with the îCîUîRîSîOîR îMîOîTîIîOîN îCîOîMîMîAîNîDîS. The cursor is the blinking
- underline or box in the upper-left corner of the screen. See the îaîrîrîoîw îkîeîyîs
- on the editing keypad. Press the îdîoîwînîaîrîrîoîw îkîeîy now. Notice that the cursor
- moves down one line each time you press it. Now move the cursor until it is
- right under this "îX". Change the X to a Y by pressing the Y key. If you make
- a mistake, press the îBîRîEîAîK key on the top row of the keyboard; it will undo
- the error! Now move the cursor around some more and experiment with changing
- words. For example, change the word cat to dog here: îcîaît
-
- To move the cursor to the next screen of the document, press the îPîGîDîN key on
- the editing keypad. Please do so now.
-
- (NOTE: to keep the tutorial in synch, position the "+" signs in the corners.)
- +
- îCîoînîgîrîaîtîuîlîaîtîiîoînîsî, îyîoîu îgîoît îhîeîrîeî!
-
- Each of the keypad keys is used both individually or with the SHIFT key to
- perform various editing commands. The SHIFT key tends to expand the effect of
- a command. For instance; the îRîIîGîHîT îAîRîRîOîW key moves the cursor one character,
- the îSîHîIîFîTî-îRîIîGîHîT îAîRîRîOîW keys move the cursor to the end of the line or the right
- margin. The îIînîs key inserts one blank character; the îSîHîIîFîTî-îIîNîS keys insert
- one blank line. The îDîEîL key removes one character; the îSîHîIîFîTî-îDîEîL keys remove
- one line. The îSîHîIîFîTî-îUîPîAîRîRîOîW or îSîHîIîFîTî-îDîOîWîNîAîRîRîOîW will move the cursor to the
- top or bottom of the display. Press the keys a second time and the text
- window will scroll up or down.
-
- You have already used the îPîGîDîN key to get to this page. The îPîGîUîP key is
- obviously used to move the text window to the previous screen of the document.
- The îSîHîIîFîTî-îPîGîUîP keys move the cursor to the first screen at the top of the
- document. The îSîHîIîFîTî-îPîGîDîN keys move the cursor to the bottom of the document.
-
- Experiment with the îCîUîRîSîOîR îCîOîMîMîAîNîDîS. To keep the display in synch with this
- tutorial, press the îSîHîIîFîTî-îPîGîUîP, îPîGîDîN, îPîGîDîN. Do it now.

-
- PTP-PC has a number of unique special features found on only the most
- sophisticated word processing systems.
-
- îHîoîrîiîzîoînîtîaîl îSîcîrîoîlîlîiînîg:
- Line lengths are up to 256 characters. Whenever the cursor reaches the
- extremes of the display, the text window will automatically scroll
- horizontally.
-
- îOînî-îSîcîrîeîeîn îBîOîLîD îaînîd äUäNäDäEäRäLäIäNäEå: (display must use intensity signal for BOLD)
- Text can be îBîOîLîDîEîD or åUåNåDåEåRåLåIåNåEåD as you enter it.
-
- îIînîtîeîrîaîcîtîiîvîe îHîyîpîhîeînîaîtîiîoîn:
- When formatting a paragraph, PTP-PC will decide if it is appropriate to
- hyphenate a word and present you with the option of where to position the
- hyphen.
-
- These features are fully described in the documentation.
-
- + +
- îMîEîNîU îCîoîmîmîaînîdîs
-
- In the upper-right corner notice the line and column numbers indicating the
- location of the cursor. Use the îCîUîRîSîOîR îMîOîTîIîOîN îCîOîMîMîAîNîDîS to position the cursor
- in line 65 (the line where the îMîEîNîU îCîoîmîmîaînîdîs title is located).
-
- Many editors and word processors require you to learn and remember confusing
- key sequences. PTP-PC uses a unique menu system that allows you to choose a
- command from a list. Press the îOîPîTîIîOîN key î(îKeypad îHîOîMîEî) key. Notice that the
- second line of the status display at the top of the screen contains a list of
- options.
-
- The first letter is displayed in îBîOîLîD (if display uses intensity signal).
- Pressing that letter will present a new list of sub-options for the option you
- selected. Press the îL key to select the LINE COMMAND MENU. Press the îL key
- again to position the line starting at the left margin. If you press the
- îOîPîTîIîOîN î(îHîOîMîEî) key by mistake, just press the îRîEîTîUîRîN key to resume editing.
- You should read the documentation before attempting to use the îFILE options.
-
- Go on to the next screen to learn how to adjust margins and paragraphs.
- + +
- We will now change the margins and adjust this paragraph to fit between the
- new margins. Position the cursor in column 12. Press îOîPîTîIîOîN î(îHîOîMîEî), then îM
- for MARGINS SUBMENU, then îL to set the left margin at column 12. Notice that
- the left margin marker in the second line of the status display at the top of
- the screen moved to column 12. Now position the cursor in column 72. Press
- îOîPîTîIîOîN î(îHîOîMîEî), then îM, then îR to set the right margin.
-
- The first character of the first line of a paragraph must be positioned
- between the margins, with or without indentation. PTP-PC will adjust the end
- of the first line and all other lines of the paragraph. Position the cursor
- in line 86 and press îSîHîIîFîTî-îLîEîFîT îAîRîRîOîW to position the cursor to the left
- margin. Press îOîPîTîIîOîN î(îHîOîMîEî), then îL for the LINE SUBMENU, then îH to move the
- line to "here". If the first character of the first word of the paragraph is
- already positioned correctly, these steps are not required; just position the
- cursor anywhere in the first line of the paragraph.
-
- Press îOîPîTîIîOîN î(îHîOîMîEî), then îP for the PARAGRAPH SUBMENU, then îJ to right JUSTIFY
- the paragraph between the margins, or îF to simply FILL the paragraph between
- the margins. Now position the next screen of the tutorial with the "+" signs
- in all four corners.

- îTîhîe îSîEîTîUîP îMîeînîu
-
- The îSîEîTîUîP î(îKîEîYîPîAîD î-î) key is used to display a status and mode menu. The menu
- displays all the modes and configurable options of PTP-PC and their current
- status. The bolded letters are pressed to change a mode or option value.
- Once you have configured PTP-PC as you wish to normally use it, you can îKeep
- the configuration. Then each time you run PTP-PC it will initialize with the
- configuration you normally use. Of course, you can change it at any time.
-
- Press the îSîEîTîUîP î(î-î) key and look at the modes and options that you can
- configure. Consult the documentation for details on each of them. There is
- also an îEîXîPîEîRîT method to bypass the MAIN SCREEN menu if you wish.
-
- Turn the îIîNîSîEîRîT mode îOîN by pressing îSîEîTîUîP î(î-î), then îI, then îSîEîTîUîP î(î-î).
- Now as you enter text, any text on the same line will automatically move to
- the right. If îWîRîAîP mode is îOîN, the last whole word at the end of a line that
- will not fit between the margins will wrap to the next line automatically.
- There is no need for you to press the îRîEîTîUîRîN key. Just keep typing and let
- PTP-PC do it for you.
